The Mumbai Coastal Road
Storm-water drainage for the Mumbai Coastal Road, the sea-front road along the city's west coast: U-shaped drains with grating lids on two packages, and box culverts on Package 4.
The challenge
A road beside the sea, in a city that floods every monsoon. The drains had to carry heavy run-off off a busy carriageway, take traffic loads at the edges, and be laid in short working windows on a crowded corridor.
The solution
Super Group supplied U-Drain T-25 units with grating lids along the carriageway on Packages 1 and 4. The T-25 is the Super Group's heavy-duty U-drain, designed for a 5 T wheel load, so the edge drain can sit where vehicles run.
Grating lids let the road's run-off fall straight into the channel along its whole length, with no separate inlets to build.
On Package 4, precast box culverts carry the flow across, laid unit by unit on a prepared bed and jointed, instead of a cast-in-place structure that would hold the work up for weeks.
Benefits
- Run-off taken in along the whole edge, through grating lids
- Heavy-duty drains for a traffic corridor
- Units laid in short windows, no formwork on site
- One supplier for drains, lids and culverts
