Super U Drain T25
A drain that carries the road. Rated for 5T and 10T wheel loads, cast in self-compacting concrete, with lids that sit dead flush.
Features
- Self-compacting concrete: Fills the steel mould without vibration, a dense, smooth channel with sharp arrises.
- Smooth, drafted walls: A steel-formed invert and slightly drafted walls keep the full section carrying water.
- 5T & 10T wheel load: 5 T front axle, 10 T rear axles, heavy vehicles can cross the lids.
- Designed reinforcement: Reinforcement sized by SCA design engineers for every section.
- Flush lids: No trip edge and no rocking under wheels.
- Lay, joint, backfill: No shuttering and no curing wait: the road opens to traffic sooner.
- A mortar pocket at every joint
- Two metres long
- A section designed for its size
- A seat that holds the lid flush
- Cast-in lifting inserts
- Lids that drop in
- A cable trench, too
- Storm water, moving
Applications
- Runway-edge drainage at an airport: A heavy-duty U-drain line along the runway shoulder carries storm water off the pavement, no ponding for aircraft taking off and landing.
- Part of the carriageway: Laid along road edges and yard aprons where trucks run straight over the lids.
- Where the water goes: The run ends at a headwall on the river bank, storm water off the road leaves the line and falls into the nala, not onto the carriageway.
- The same station with an SCA U-drain between the tracks: Lids flush with the formation take the run-off; the tracks stay clear and the locals keep running. SCA can install the line unit by unit in night-time line blocks.
- How the line gets its fall: The unit keeps one section; the fall comes from the PCC bed, cast to the gradient (about 1 in 200). Each unit is set to its invert on a string line, laid from the downstream end upward, so the water always runs to the outfall.
What it prevents
- Waterlogged roads: Storm water is carried off the carriageway instead of standing on it.
- Potholes & base failure: A dry sub-base keeps the pavement from softening and breaking up under trucks.
- Broken covers: Lids and walls rated for 5 T wheels, no collapsed drain edges where lorries turn.
- Months of site work: No shuttering, no curing wait: lay, joint, backfill, open to traffic.
Installation
- Excavate: Trench to line and level with working space both sides.
- PCC bed: 100 mm PCC 1:4:8, 100 mm beyond the drain each side; nominal 1:1000 fall if needed.
- Mortar & place: 20 mm levelling mortar, then lower each unit by its inserts.
- Joint & backfill: Fill the 20 × 25 joint pocket with ready-mix mortar, backfill in layers, drop the lids in.
